The Kano State Government has announced that the ongoing redevelopment of the Green Park along Audu Bako Way is nearing completion, marking another milestone in its urban renewal and environmental sustainability agenda.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dr Dahir Muhammad Hashim, disclosed this in a statement personally signed on Saturday, saying the project reflects the vision of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to provide residents with safe, accessible and environmentally friendly recreational facilities.
According to the commissioner, the park, which was once associated with various illicit activities, is being transformed into a modern public space designed to promote recreation, environmental sustainability and community wellbeing.

“This intervention reflects the vision of His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to provide residents with accessible recreational facilities and revitalized green spaces that promote healthier and more livable communities,” Hashim said.
He noted that the project forms part of the administration’s broader commitment to reclaiming public spaces and restoring green areas across the state, adding that the redevelopment will offer residents a secure and attractive environment for leisure and social activities.

The commissioner further stated that the transformation of the park demonstrates the government’s determination to improve the quality of life of citizens through investments in environmental infrastructure and urban renewal initiatives.
Hashim expressed optimism that the project would soon be completed and opened for public use, stressing that the government remains committed to creating sustainable green spaces that contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment.

Recall that the Kano State Government had earlier unveiled plans to restore 10 public parks across the metropolis under its “Green Mandate” initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and enhancing public recreation.
Three months ago, Hashim disclosed that the administration had recovered and commenced the redevelopment of several public spaces that had either deteriorated or been converted to other uses.
He said the initiative was designed to provide children and families with modern playgrounds and serene recreational centres.
The government has also been carrying out transformation works at Nassarawa Park, where a section of the facility is being converted into a modern green space and recreational playground as part of the state’s ongoing urban renewal efforts.
