The International Institute of Qur’anic Science (IIQS) at Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN) has reaffirmed the compatibility of divine revelation and scientific discovery during its June 2026 Monthly Lecture Series themed “The Qur’an and the Sciences.”
The lecture, held at the university premises in Kano, brought together academics, Islamic scholars, students and members of the public to examine the relationship between the Holy Qur’an and contemporary scientific knowledge.
Speaking at the event, the Director of IIQS, Professor Sani Musa Ayagi, said the institute remains committed to promoting scholarly engagement that enhances understanding of the Qur’an and its relevance to modern-day knowledge.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, who declared the lecture open, commended the institute for sustaining the monthly lecture series and reiterated the university’s commitment to academic excellence, research and the integration of revealed knowledge with modern sciences.

Delivering the keynote lecture, Professor Umar Sani Fagge argued that authentic scientific discoveries complement, rather than contradict, the teachings of the Holy Qur’an. He cited Qur’anic verses to explain scientific concepts, including human embryonic development, the movement of celestial bodies, the solar system and the concept of time.
Professor Fagge said the Qur’an had described several natural phenomena more than fourteen centuries ago, long before the emergence of modern scientific disciplines, adding that advances in science continue to affirm many of the realities contained in the Islamic scripture.
He particularly highlighted the stages of human development from conception to birth, explaining that the Qur’an provides detailed descriptions that align with established scientific knowledge on embryology.
SolaceBase reports that the lecture was further enriched by the discussant, Dr. Nasir Tijjani Kankarofi, who expanded on the presentation with additional Qur’anic references and scholarly perspectives on the relationship between revelation and scientific inquiry. He maintained that faith and scientific knowledge should be viewed as complementary rather than conflicting.

Participants also engaged in an interactive session, contributing observations and raising questions on the role of the Qur’an in addressing contemporary scientific issues.
Also speaking, the Director of the Proprietor’s Office, Alhaji Anwar Isyaku Rabiu, praised the quality of the lecture and commended the university for creating platforms that promote the integration of Islamic scholarship with modern academic disciplines.
The Registrar, Malam Yusuf Datti, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to the guest lecturer, discussant, university management and participants for contributing to the success of the programme.
The monthly lecture series forms part of KHAIRUN’s efforts to promote intellectual engagement and strengthen Qur’anic scholarship while encouraging dialogue on the relationship between faith and scientific inquiry.
