Kidnappers Release Video Of Ex-Army General, Wife In Captivity

The abductors of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, and his wife have released a video showing the couple in captivity and outlining conditions for their release.

Abubakar and his wife were kidnapped along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State near Zakin Baure village.

In the four-minute video, which surfaced on social media on Saturday, the retired general’s wife conveyed the demands of the abductors.

She said the kidnappers were demanding the release of three of their members identified as Sani, Aminu and Nasiru, as well as the return of livestock allegedly confiscated from them, Daily Trust reports.

According to her, two of the detained individuals were arrested in Jikamshi, while the third was arrested in Kano.

She appealed to the Katsina State Government and leaders of five local government areas to assist in meeting the demands to secure their freedom.

Speaking briefly in the video, Abubakar called for efforts towards peace, stating that the abductors had expressed willingness to engage in dialogue and coexist peacefully.

Daily Trust also reports that a notorious bandit leader, Kachallah Muhammad, who operates in parts of Katsina State, had established contact with the retired general’s family.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Katsina State Government nor security agencies had officially commented on the video.
