Iran launched a major missile and drone attack on Kuwait early on Monday morning. Sirens sounded across the country, causing panic among residents. Many people rushed to safe locations as the attack unfolded.
According to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), warning sirens were activated nationwide. Kuwait’s military also switched on its air defence systems to intercept incoming missiles and drones.
US Confirms Military Strikes on Iran
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed carrying out military strikes against Iran. The US said the action was taken in self-defence after Iran shot down an American MQ-1 drone that was flying over international waters.
US Targets Iranian Military Sites
CENTCOM said the strikes took place on Saturday and Sunday. American fighter aircraft destroyed Iranian air defence systems, ground control stations and two one-way attack drones.
The US also targeted radar and drone command centres in the Goruk region and on Qeshm Island. Washington described the operation as a “measured and limited” response to what it called Iranian aggression.
Israel Steps Up Attacks in Lebanon
As peace talks between the United States and Iran appear to have failed, Israel has increased its attacks on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon.
According to international media reports, Israel carried out heavy strikes in parts of Lebanon on Sunday. Several buildings were reportedly damaged or destroyed during the attacks.
Rubio Holds Talks With Israeli and Lebanese Leaders
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has spoken with both Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Israel and Lebanon.
US Proposes Plan to Reduce Tensions
A US official said Washington has proposed a plan under which Hezbollah would stop all attacks on Israel as a first step. In return, Israel would avoid escalating tensions in Beirut.
The official added that President Aoun tried to advance the proposal. However, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has insisted that Israel should first stop its attacks before any further progress can be made.
