The Labour Party, LP, in Lagos State has said its organisational structures remain fully active across all 20 local government areas of the state as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Lagos State Secretary of the party, Mr Sam Okpala, stated this in an interview with journalists on Tuesday in Lagos.
Okpala said the party had strengthened its internal structures and put in place necessary arrangements aimed at ensuring a strong performance in the next general elections.
He assured members and supporters that the party remained united and operational despite ongoing internal disagreements within its ranks.
According to him, the Labour Party in Lagos has already begun voter sensitisation and mobilisation exercises across communities, with plans to further expand its grassroots presence statewide.
He also noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has mandated political parties to register members through its electronic registration platform nationwide.
Okpala said the party commenced its registration exercise shortly after the 2023 general elections and has continued the process since then.
“We started preparation since 2023 and we are still here today and stronger,” he said.
The LP chieftain described the party as people-focused, stressing that its activities are geared towards mobilising citizens and promoting voter participation ahead of future elections.
He urged residents not to allow fear, intimidation or concerns over electoral malpractice to discourage them from participating in the democratic process.
“Fear of violence, intimidation and electoral malpractice contribute to low voter turnout. We do not want people to be afraid and fail to perform their civic responsibility,” he said.
On the leadership crisis within the party, Okpala acknowledged that internal disputes had affected the organisation but expressed confidence that the matter would be resolved in the party’s favour at the Supreme Court.
“We are hopeful that as the Supreme Court gives its judgment, it will be in our favour and we will reclaim the party,” he said.
He maintained that the Labour Party remains optimistic about improving its political performance and making a stronger impact in the 2027 elections in Nigeria.
