Traffic has eased on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, both inward and outward Lagos, following hours of severe gridlock that left many commuters stranded overnight.
The improvement comes despite ongoing repair works on the expansion joints around the OPIC-Kara section of the highway.
The road is considerably freer on Wednesday than it was on Tuesday, when commuters heading home from work were trapped in traffic for several hours.
The situation remained difficult into the early hours of Wednesday, with reports of heavy congestion on both sides of the expressway as far as 3am.
Some stranded commuters reportedly resorted to trekking for parts of their journeys in an effort to get home after spending hours in traffic.
The gridlock has been linked to the ongoing repair works and traffic diversions around the OPIC-Kara section of the expressway.
Traffic management agencies have continued to deploy personnel to control the flow of vehicles and ease pressure on the affected corridor.
Motorists are, however, advised to exercise caution and allow extra travel time while the repair works continue.
