The Lagos State Government has launched the Lagos State Greenhouse Gas Registry (LGHGR), becoming the first sub-national government in Nigeria to establish a comprehensive greenhouse gas emissions registry.
The state government said the initiative represents “another milestone in its environmental sustainability agenda” and is aimed at strengthening climate governance and emissions monitoring.
The launch, held at the Central Business District in Alausa, Ikeja, was attended by the Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, members of the Lagos State Executive Council, representatives of the Federal Ministry of Environment, development partners, TPHG Technologies, the diplomatic and business communities, academia, civil society organisations, and the media.
According to the state government, the registry will enhance the monitoring, reporting and management of greenhouse gas emissions, reinforcing Lagos’ commitment to climate action.
The government said the initiative “reinforces climate leadership” and will support evidence-based policies to reduce emissions and build a cleaner, more sustainable environment.
