Lagos State has sealed Pinnock Beach Estate in Lekki and several other properties across the state over the illegal discharge of untreated sewage into canals, drains, and surrounding environments.
The enforcement action was disclosed by Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, through his official X account on Thursday.
The commissioner said the enforcement followed repeated warnings and abatement notices by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office over environmental nuisance, offensive odour, public health risks, drainage blockage, and threats to aquatic life.
According to the Lagos State Government, Pinnock Beach Estate in Osapa London, Lekki, was shut after authorities discovered deliberate pumping of untreated sewage into a nearby canal, creating serious environmental pollution and endangering both residents and aquatic ecosystems.
The government reiterated that the closures align with its zero-tolerance stance on environmental infractions, warning that violators risk sanctions, closures, and possible prosecution.
Lagos State has significantly ramped up enforcement against environmental offenders, particularly residential estates and commercial establishments violating wastewater disposal laws.
These repeated enforcement actions reflect the state’s growing commitment to tackling sanitation breaches and reducing environmental hazards.
Lagos State recently reinstated its monthly environmental sanitation exercise on April 25, 2026, as part of wider measures to improve environmental cleanliness and reduce flooding risks.
The renewed sanitation exercise, combined with stricter wastewater management enforcement, signals Lagos State’s stronger resolve to enhance environmental governance, protect public health, and maintain cleaner communities.
