The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has commended maritime workers across the country for their resilience, dedication, and critical contributions to Nigeria’s economic development.
In a statement marking International Workers’ Day, the Minister described workers in the maritime sector as key drivers of trade facilitation and economic diversification.
The statement, signed by his Special Adviser, Bolaji Akinola, noted that the contributions of seafarers, dockworkers, port administrators, marine engineers, fishermen, and regulators remain indispensable to the nation’s economic stability.
“Today, we celebrate the dedication, resilience, and invaluable contributions of maritime workers whose daily efforts sustain the lifeblood of our nation’s economy,” Oyetola said.
He emphasised that the maritime sector continues to serve as a critical pillar of Nigeria’s economic diversification strategy, particularly within the framework of the Blue Economy initiative.
According to him, the workforce has remained steadfast in ensuring the efficient movement of goods, improving port operations, and strengthening Nigeria’s position in global trade.
“Your role in advancing the Blue Economy through sustainable resource management, innovation, and environmental stewardship cannot be overstated,” he added.
The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving working conditions across the sector, enhancing maritime security, and investing in modern port infrastructure.
He also assured that policies aimed at protecting workers’ welfare and promoting dignity in labour would remain a priority.
Oyetola urged maritime workers to sustain their professionalism, integrity, and commitment to excellence in order to position Nigeria’s maritime industry as globally competitive.
