Nigeria’s 36 state governors have agreed to take away unlawful roadblocks and cut back a number of taxes throughout the nation to ease meals transportation and curb rising costs.
This decision adopted a late-night assembly of the Nigeria Governors’ Discussion board (NGF) in Abuja, which ended early Thursday, June 19.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State learn the communiqué issued on the finish of the assembly, explaining that the choice was pushed by the necessity to tackle meals inflation.
Sanwo-Olu mentioned the governors reached a consensus “to dismantle unlawful highway blocks and a number of taxes,” which they consider are main contributors to the surging value of meals.
The communiqué was signed by NGF Chairman and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

In line with the communiqué, “The Discussion board obtained a briefing from the National Security Adviser (NSA), accompanied by the Honourable Ministers of Defence, Agriculture, Livestock Improvement, and Transportation, on the rising value of meals and livestock transportation throughout the nation.”
It famous that, “The presentation revealed that the proliferation of checkpoints, unlawful taxation, and poor infrastructure are key contributors to cost inflation and inefficiencies within the meals provide chain.”
“The NSA famous {that a} high-level inter-ministerial committee has been established to handle these considerations and has submitted its suggestions for the endorsement of the Discussion board,” the communiqué added.
The governors, it mentioned, “acknowledged the urgency of the matter and expressed dedication to collaborate with federal authorities to streamline levies, dismantle unauthorized checkpoints, and enhance the motion of products throughout states.”
