The senator representing Gombe Central Senatorial District, Mohammad Danjuma Goje, has expressed readiness to participate in the forthcoming All Progressives Congress, APC, primaries ahead of the January 16 presidential and National Assembly elections.
Mr Goje, a former governor of Gombe State, made the declaration on Saturday in Abuja after undergoing the screening exercise conducted by the ruling All Progressives Congress.
His declaration comes amid political tension in Gombe State following reports that Governor Inuwa Yahaya had endorsed a consensus candidate for the Gombe Central Senatorial District seat.
However, in a statement signed by his aide, Ahmed Isah Kashere, the senator reaffirmed his determination to seek re-election, insisting that he remained a loyal and committed founding member of the APC.
“Together with other aspirants, I have been screened to contest for the primaries of our great party, APC, for Gombe Central Senatorial District ahead of next year’s elections,” Mr Goje stated.
He said he was returning to seek the mandate of the people based on what he described as the developmental strides recorded in the district during his representation.
“Under the APC, the party we founded, I will once again humbly present myself to the good people of Gombe Central Senatorial District for the revalidation of the mandate they have overwhelmingly entrusted in me to sustain the developmental strides taking place in our senatorial district,” he said.
The senator also pledged continued commitment to the development of the district, while appreciating residents of Akko and Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Areas for their support and loyalty over the years.
“I will always remain steadfast and unwavering in the quest to bring more development to our people. I thank all our people of Gombe Central Senatorial District for their consistent support over the years,” he added.
Mr Goje further expressed confidence in his political strength within the constituency, noting that the backing he enjoys from constituents remained strong despite what he termed “external influence.”
“The solid support of my constituents across Akko and Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Areas, despite external influence, is my driving force,” he said.
The development is expected to intensify political calculations within the APC in Gombe State as the party prepares for its primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
