A young Nigerian military officer has sparked reactions online after opening up about the challenges soldiers are currently facing, admitting that he has considered leaving the profession altogether.
In a viral video making the rounds online, the soldier expressed frustration over the hardship he and many of his colleagues are allegedly enduring, saying the situation has become unbearable.
“The way I am seeing it, na to run comot for this job go back to my village na him remain. Maybe go learn tailoring, plumbing or mechanic.”
The soldier noted that many people may not understand what military personnel go through daily, stressing that life has become increasingly difficult for them.
He also appealed to Nigerians to show kindness whenever they encounter soldiers in need, claiming that many of them are battling serious challenges behind the scenes.
“If any soldier beg you for money this period, please give them. It’s not easy for them this period. E tough for them now because they are going through a lot.”
The video triggered mixed reactions online, while some Nigerians sympathised with the soldier, others questioned the state of welfare and support available to military personnel.
Many social media users also called on the authorities to improve the living conditions of security operatives who risk their lives protecting the country.
