The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has assured the Traditional Royal and Religious Women Leaders Network (TAWIN) of media support to promote the Renewed Hope Agenda.
NAN Managing Director, Malam Ali Muhammad Ali, gave the assurance on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by TAWIN members to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
Ali said NAN recognised the important role of women in national development through their influence in families, communities, traditional institutions and religious organisations.
He said the agency would give adequate publicity to TAWIN’s activities because its objectives aligned with grassroots mobilisation, community development and national progress.
“Looking at the quality of representation here across cultural and religious divides, I believe this organisation is long overdue.
“With this unique network of religious, traditional and royal women leaders, you have the capacity to reach the grassroots.
“That is very important because meaningful national development begins at the community level.
“At the News Agency of Nigeria, we are naturally inclined to give your activities maximum publicity because your objectives are noble, timely and beneficial to society,” he said.
According Ali, NAN has partnerships with global media organisations such as Reuters, AFP and the Chinese News Agency, while also supplying news to media organisations across Nigeria.
The managing director said NAN had an amazing workforce of over 500 reporters, with specialised desks, including one dedicated to gender issues.
He promised that NAN would participate in TAWIN’s planned unveiling of its “Operation 4 Plus 4” project in Abuja.
“For the unveiling of your ‘Operation 4 Plus 4′ project, we will be there and provide the support we can. We will also continue discussions on areas of collaboration.
“While I cannot make commitments beyond the agency’s capacity and existing mandates, our doors remain open for constructive partnership,” he said
Earlier, TAWIN National Coordinator, Princess Nikky Onyeri, said the network united traditional, royal and religious women to support national development.
Onyeri said the organisation had members across Nigeria’s 36 states, the FCT and the 774 local government areas.
She said the network would leverage members’ influence to promote education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, security and social welfare at the grassroots.
According to her, TAWIN also seeks to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and re-election, through advocacy and community engagement.
She invited NAN to collaborate in publicising the network’s activities and requested the agency’s support for its planned national programmes.
She said the organisation would continue promoting unity, moral values and peaceful coexistence through traditional, royal and religious institutions.
Onyeri also commended NAN for promoting gender inclusion, noting that women occupied several leadership positions within the agency.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
