The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, has launched a specialised human capacity development programme to prepare young Nigerians for careers in oil and gas supply base operations.
The 12-month initiative which commenced on Tuesday at the LADOL Free Zone in Apapa, Lagos, will provide intensive training for 12 selected beneficiaries through a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on industry experience in logistics, procurement, trade, and supply chain management.
NCDMB is carrying out the exercise in collaboration with Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, SNEPCo, and Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics, LADOL.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Ogbe, said the programme represents a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future workforce and the sustainability of the energy sector.
Represented by the Board’s General Manager, Human Capacity Development, Ms. Alexis Emelle, Ogbe noted that the initiative aligns with NCDMB’s mandate of developing a highly skilled local workforce capable of meeting the evolving demands of the oil and gas industry.
She urged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity by demonstrating discipline, commitment, and a strong desire to learn, stressing that the industry requires professionals who are adaptable, dependable, and solution-driven.
According to her, every aspect of the programme is designed not only to build technical competence but also to instil the character and professionalism needed to succeed in a highly competitive industry.
Speaking on behalf of SNEPCo, the company’s Nigerian Content Manager, Mr. Obiajulu Onochie, described human capital development as a critical pillar of operational excellence and sustainable industry growth.
He commended NCDMB for its consistent efforts in driving capacity development, noting that the Board has established itself as one of the most professional institutions promoting Nigerian Content in the energy sector.
Onochie disclosed that SNEPCo has continued to invest in talent development through various specialised training programmes covering cybersecurity, NEBOSH certification, blockchain architecture, and subsea engineering disciplines.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to nurturing Nigerian talent, emphasising that investment in human capital remains essential to building a resilient and globally competitive energy industry.
LADOL also highlighted the importance of local content development, stating that indigenous businesses such as LADOL have benefited significantly from policies that prioritise Nigerian participation in the sector.
Speaking through a representative, the company expressed its committment to supporting initiatives that equip young Nigerians with industry-relevant skills and enhance local capacity across the oil and gas value chain.
Beneficiaries of the scheme were selected through a rigorous two-stage screening process and will receive practical training tailored to the operational requirements of supply base services, a critical component of offshore oil and gas activities.
Responding on behalf of the trainees, Mr. Olaniye Sodiq expressed gratitude to NCDMB, SNEPCo, LADOL and the training partners for investing in their professional development.
He assured stakeholders that the participants would maximise the opportunity and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the industry upon completion of the programme.
