Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has criticised the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) over the absence of a clear manifesto and policy direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Naijaonpoint reports that Onanuga said the opposition party had failed to present a detailed plan for governing Nigeria despite positioning itself as an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
In a statement shared on his 𝕏 account on Friday, the presidential aide said he visited the party’s website twice to check its manifesto and governance agenda but could not find any document explaining the party’s plans for the country.
According to him, the party recently became a political home for former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, yet it still lacks accessible policy documents.
Onanuga stated that he wanted to compare the party’s vision with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and the APC. He explained that although the website contained a section inviting visitors to download the manifesto, every attempt to access the document ended without success because no file was available.
He also claimed that despite the party being registered in February, it had not uploaded a complete manifesto and only displayed a few policy points described as pillars.
According to him, the ideas listed on the website were too general and sounded similar to statements repeatedly made by Obi over the years.
The presidential aide also challenged the party’s national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, to publicly present the party’s direction and plans for the country.
He further described the party as a gathering place for politicians searching for a new political platform ahead of the next election cycle.
The criticism comes after Obi and Kwankwaso officially joined the NDC following their exit from the African Democratic Congress.
He wrote, “I was interested in the party’s manifesto and whether it has enunciated a markedly different vision for the governance of Nigeria, one better than President Tinubu’s and the APC’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Even though the site invited visitors to click on its manifesto to read it, the result was negative. ‘No document found’ was the response I got each time I tried to download the manifesto.
“However, the nuggets don’t read like pillars. They sound more like the platitudes the party’s newest catch, Peter Obi, has bombarded the nation with in the last six years. Senator Dickson, I look forward to your vision and mission for Nigeria. Your party appears to be the camp for the politically displaced and desperate.”
