New Commander of 35 Artillery Brigade assumes office

Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu has officially assumed command of the 35 Artillery Brigade as its 14th Commander, taking over from Brigadier General Godwin Nwamba during a colourful handing and taking over ceremony held on Friday, 29 May 2026, at the Brigade’s Headquarters, Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Brigadier General Nwamba has been redeployed to the Army Headquarters Department of Civil-Military Affairs, where he will serve as the acting Deputy Chief of Civil-Military Affairs – Psychological Operations.

In his farewell remarks, the outgoing Commander expressed gratitude to officers and soldiers of the Brigade for their unwavering support and cooperation throughout his tenure.

He noted that their commitment and professionalism greatly contributed to the successes recorded under his leadership.

He urged personnel to extend the same level of cooperation and support to the incoming Commander, emphasizing that their knowledge of the operational environment would be invaluable to him.

In his remarks, the incoming Commander, Brigadier General Onu, commended his predecessor for the remarkable developmental strides achieved during his tenure. He congratulated General Nwamba on his new appointment and wished him success in his future endeavours.

General Onu called on officers and soldiers of the Brigade to remain dedicated to their duties and uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

He stressed the importance of prioritising the welfare of soldiers and sought the support, loyalty and cooperation of all personnel in order to move the Brigade to greater heights.

Highlights of the ceremony included the signing of handing and taking over notes, the transfer of the insignia of command, an address to troops, the Quarter Guard handing and taking over parade and a group photograph.
