The United Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dame Sarah Macintosh, has commended the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in tackling Nigeria’s security and economic challenges.
Macintosh made the remarks during a meeting with Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, at the Nigeria Mission House in New York.
According to a statement by the Office of Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, the meeting focused on Nigeria’s security and economic development, bilateral relations and cooperation between both countries within the UN system.
The diplomats also exchanged views on border stability and other issues of mutual interest, while exploring ways to strengthen Nigeria-UK cooperation.
Macintosh congratulated Ibrahim on his posting to New York and his election as Chairman of the UN Fifth Committee, which oversees administrative and budgetary matters.
She said Ibrahim’s new position would provide an opportunity to deepen engagement between Nigeria, the UK and other member states at the United Nations.
The British envoy stressed the importance of continued engagement between the two countries, particularly on matters of mutual interest and international cooperation.
Responding, Ibrahim thanked Macintosh for the visit and expressed appreciation for the continued diplomatic engagement between Nigeria and the UK.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for both diplomats to exchange views on developments in Nigeria and prospects for further strengthening bilateral relations.
