The Federal Government-backed WAWUAfrica x Alison 10 Million Empowerment Programme has opened applications for Nigerians interested in gaining free digital and professional skills training across different sectors.
The initiative aims to train 10 million Nigerians with globally relevant skills, certifications and access to employment opportunities as part of efforts to improve empowerment, entrepreneurship and workforce development in the country.
According to information released by WAWUAfrica on May 8, the programme is not a cash giveaway, palliative scheme or food distribution project, but a large-scale knowledge and skills development initiative targeted at preparing Nigerians for opportunities in the modern global economy.
Participants will receive free CPD UK-accredited training in different fields, while diploma certificates will be offered at an 80 per cent discount. The organisers also said beneficiaries will gain access to globally recognised certifications, professional profiling opportunities and links to jobs, business networks and intra-African trade opportunities.
The programme is being implemented through a partnership involving WAWUAfrica, Alison and the Federal Government.
WAWUAfrica noted that the training is completely free for Nigerians and encouraged citizens to take advantage of the opportunity instead of waiting for government interventions in the form of handouts or palliatives.
The organisation also expressed concern that many Nigerians are not actively sharing information about the programme despite constant complaints about unemployment and limited opportunities.
“Because when it’s food, money, or politics, everybody mobilises fast. But when it’s education, skills, and empowerment, suddenly it becomes ‘not important,’” the statement said.
Chief Executive Officer of WAWUAfrica, Lennox, urged Nigerians to help spread awareness about the initiative in churches, mosques, schools, communities and social groups.
“Any nation that waits for others to save it will remain a victim of its own excuses,” he said.
