The Nigeria Immigration Service has cautioned Nigerians against travelling abroad without proper documentation and falling victim to fake job offers overseas.
In a public advisory issued on Monday via its official X handle, the Service, through its spokesperson, DCI A.S. Akinlabi, stressed that all international travel must be undertaken with valid passports, visas where required, and other approved immigration documents.
The agency warned that attempts to bypass official procedures or use unauthorised border routes constitute a violation of the law and expose individuals to significant risks.
It also raised concerns over the increasing activities of fraudulent migration networks that lure unsuspecting citizens—especially youths—with false promises of jobs, education, and better living conditions abroad.
According to the Service, such schemes often lead to forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation, noting that no legitimate travel process operates outside established immigration protocols.
The NIS urged Nigerians to verify travel and recruitment offers through official channels and avoid engaging with unregistered agents promoting irregular migration.
It further encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest immigration office or relevant security agencies.
Reaffirming its mandate, the Service said it remains committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s borders and protecting citizens from illegal migration and exploitation.
