A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has said the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms of the National Youth Service Corps will strengthen youth empowerment, boost human capital development and accelerate Nigeria’s drive towards achieving a $1 trillion economy.
Oyintiloye, a former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, described the reforms as a strategic shift from the traditional national service model to a skills-based programme designed to equip graduates with practical competencies for the modern labour market.
He said the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s economic agenda by preparing young Nigerians with industry-relevant skills capable of driving productivity, entrepreneurship and job creation.
According to him, the restructured NYSC scheme will enable corps members to acquire specialised knowledge tailored to their academic backgrounds while contributing meaningfully to national development.
“The reforms represent a bold step towards repositioning the NYSC as a platform for youth empowerment and national development. By strengthening the capacity of graduates and equipping them with relevant skills, the initiative will support the Federal Government’s vision of building a $1 trillion economy,” he said.
Oyintiloye explained that under the new framework, corps members would be required to choose from specialised service streams after registration.
The streams include Agriculture Corps, Medical Corps, Education Corps, Tech and Digital Corps, Legal Corps, Public Service Corps, Infrastructure Corps, Green Corps, Enterprise Corps, Creative Economy Corps, as well as Paramilitary and Security Corps.
He noted that participants would undergo specialised training during the orientation camp to prepare them for assignments aligned with their chosen fields.
The APC stalwart said the initiative would enhance graduates’ employability, promote innovation and improve service delivery across critical sectors of the economy.
He added that the reforms would also help reduce youth unemployment by prioritising skills acquisition and creating pathways for productive engagement after the one-year national service.
Oyintiloye commended the Federal Government for introducing the reforms, expressing confidence that the new structure would transform the NYSC into a more impactful institution capable of producing a skilled workforce to support Nigeria’s long-term economic growth.
