The Democratic Leadership Alliance, DLA, has appointed former chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in Osun State, Dr. Odeyemi Tosin as Acting Chairman of the party in the state.
His appointment was contained in a letter signed by the National Chairman, Barr. Samuel M. Memeh, and dated 17th July, 2026.
NAIJAONPOINT reports that Odeyemi had earlier, announced his resignation from the NNPP, citing the crisis affecting the party at the national level.
He was the chairman of the NNPP for six years and his resignation triggered a wave of defection from the party as the deputy National Women leader, Hon. Solape Olatunbosun, the Zonal Secretary (Southwest), Hon. Olalekan Fabayo, the Deputy State Secretary, Adegbaju Celestinah, Welfare Secretary, Akinfala IfeOluwa, Ife/Ijesa Senatorial Chairman, Prophet Peter O. Blessed, and State deputy Women leader, Mrs. Oladosu also left the NNPP.
The DLA said Odeyemi’s appointment, followed approval by the National Executive Committee, NEC, and was issued pursuant to the powers of the National Chairman and National Working Committee, NWC, under the DLA Constitution.
The letter said, “Odeyemi is expected to establish and maintain effective party structures across the state, uphold the Constitution and ideology of the party, and report directly to the NWC on the progress of the Osun Chapter.”
The party said the appointment is “at the pleasure of the National Working Committee” and remains subject to review after congresses to elect substantive executives, or in the event of violation of party rules.”

The DLA described the move as part of efforts to reposition the party and strengthen its grassroots presence ahead of future political engagements in Osun State.
A copy of the letter was also sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In his acceptance remarks, Odeyemi expressed gratitude to the National Chairman, NEC and NWC of DLA for the confidence reposed in him to lead the party in Osun State at this critical time.
He said the appointment is a call to service and not a title, and pledged to work tirelessly to rebuild, unite, and expand the structures of the DLA across the 30 Local Government Areas of the state.
“I accept this responsibility with humility and a deep sense of duty. Our immediate task is to bring every genuine member together, ensure discipline, and make the DLA a credible alternative for the people of Osun who are yearning for purposeful leadership,” Odeyemi stated.
He further assured the national leadership that the Osun Chapter under his watch will operate with transparency, discipline, and integrity. He called on all members and stakeholders to support the new direction.
