Odumeje Says Pastors Should Rebuke Bad Governments, Not Benefit From Them

Popular Nigerian cleric, Pastor Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Pastor Odumeje, has expressed disappointment with the role of some religious leaders and Nigeria’s political class, accusing them of failing to hold those in power accountable.

Speaking during a sermon, Odumeje said he was reluctant to comment directly on Pastor Enoch Adeboye but stressed that the responsibility of every pastor is to rebuke bad governance rather than benefit from it.

The outspoken preacher lamented what he described as the failure of his generation of pastors to speak truth to power, saying many politicians continue to misuse public resources while receiving praise from the same citizens they were elected to serve.

According to him, elected officials are meant to represent the people, serve the public, and remain accountable to citizens, but many Nigerians are unaware of their rights.

Odumeje also criticised the alleged misuse of public funds, claiming that some politicians use state resources to educate their children and relatives abroad while ordinary Nigerians continue to face hardship.

He further alleged that outspoken critics of the government, including Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, are targeted because they challenge those in authority.
