Gateway International Airport (GWI) in Ilishan-Iperu, Ogun State, has formally commenced business flight operations, marking a major milestone within the state’s aviation and {economic} improvement agenda.
The airport started operations on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, after receiving an Interim Aerodrome Operational Permit from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), authorising it to deal with scheduled passenger providers.
Governor Dapo Abiodun described the launch as “a dream fulfilled,” emphasising that the power would strengthen Ogun’s place as a strategic commerce and logistics hub in Nigeria’s South-West.
Domestic provider ValueJet operated the maiden flight to Abuja and can run two weekly spherical journeys between Gateway International Airport and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport each Tuesday and Thursday.
Departures from Ilishan-Iperu are scheduled for 8:30 a.m., arriving in Abuja at 9:45 a.m., with return flights leaving Abuja at 4:00 p.m. and arriving again in Ogun by 5:15 p.m.
Tickets for the flights went on sale on September 25, 2025, by means of ValueJet’s on-line platform, journey companies, and ticket counters on the airport.
Located close to the Sagamu Interchange alongside the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, the Gateway International Airport, also referred to as the Gateway Agro-Cargo Airport, was designed to deal with each passenger and cargo operations.
It includes a trendy runway outfitted with an Instrument Landing System (ILS/DME) on Runway 23, licensed by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) for unrestricted use.

The airport is predicted to spice up agricultural exports, entice new investments, and open up the Remo industrial hall to home and worldwide commerce.
Aviation consultants say the event will ease stress on Lagos airports and supply sooner journey choices for enterprise and leisure travellers throughout the South-West.
