The race for the Ebonyi North Senatorial seat has intensified as Chief Chikodili Ojemba, a kinsman of Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the 2027 election.
Ojemba, a businessman promised quality representation, youth empowerment and grassroots development if elected to represent the district at the National Assembly.
He made the pledge on Thursday after emerging victorious at the party’s senatorial primary held in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
The Ebonyi North Senatorial District comprises Abakaliki, Ebonyi, Izzi and Ohaukwu local government areas.
Speaking after his emergence, Ojemba described himself as “a credible alternative” for the people of the zone, stating that his decision to contest followed persistent calls from constituents who urged him to serve.
According to him, his priorities would include job creation for graduates, educational support for undergraduates, infrastructural development, agricultural advancement and skills acquisition programmes targeted at youths and women.
“I am motivated to work for our people and better the lives of our children by tirelessly collaborating with others and voicing your concerns on the floor of the Senate starting from 2027,” he said.
Ojemba further pledged to champion legislation capable of unlocking the agricultural potential of the district, while also attracting modern schools and mentorship programmes through collaboration with relevant agencies.
He assured constituents that his representation would be people-oriented and consultation-driven.
“My representation shall always be conversation-driven through town hall meetings where opinions of the people will form part of our bills and motions,” he added.
The APGA candidate also emphasized that his campaign would remain peaceful and issue-based, urging supporters to avoid violence, insults and confrontations with political opponents.
“People that fight do not win elections. Let us be courageous enough to tell the public the truth. Insults do not give votes,” he stated.
Ojemba called on party faithful to mobilize support at the grassroots, insisting that the project was a collective mission rather than a personal ambition.
“This mandate is not for my family alone; it is for all of us,” he said.
Earlier, the Ebonyi State Chairman of APGA expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness for the 2027 general elections, describing members and supporters as focused, united and committed to victory.
“We are not fighting anybody. APGA is fully prepared for the 2027 elections and we believe we will shock other political parties,” the chairman said.
He commended party members for their discipline and peaceful conduct, stressing that APGA remained committed to issue-based politics and internal harmony.
