Twelve chairmen of political parties in Osun State under the aegis of ‘The Democrat’ have announced a plan to organise a Peace Summit ahead of the August 15 gubernatorial election.
The parties include the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Action Alliance (AC), Action Democratic Party (ADP) and Boot Party.
Others are the Labour Party (LP), Zenit Labour Party (ZLP), African Action Congress (AAC), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Addressing journalists in Osogbo, the chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, who doubles as the chairman of the group, said the summit would enable stakeholders in the electoral process to have critical discussions on how to have a peaceful election.
Odeyemi said that as party chairmen, they have a critical role to play regardless of their political party differences in promoting and sustaining a free, fair, credible, transparent, inclusive, and peaceful electoral environment in Osun.
He said, “As the gubernatorial election draws near, we felt there is a need for us as party chairmen to gather the stakeholders in the electoral process under a roof for a critical discussion, hence the need for this Peace Summit.

“The main purpose is to map out ways of having a peaceful electoral process, before, during and after the election and reach a conclusive agreement.
“Osun belongs to all of us, regardless of the political party differences, and we, as party chairmen, must play our roles of promoting and sustaining a free, fair, credible, transparent, inclusive, and peaceful electoral environment in our dear state.
“It is our wish that this forthcoming election is without any rancour. We want to emphasise the values of tolerance, accommodation, and peaceful living among the residents irrespective of the outcome of the August 15, 2026, gubernatorial election.”
Odeyemi said that the date for the event, which he described as a first of its kind in Osun, will be announced soon, adding that “we strongly believe that it will change the narratives of our governorship election.”
