The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reacted to reports that a Federal High Court has sacked the party’s elected state chairmen, saying the congresses did not end the tenure of the current executives.
The party’s position was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the attention of the party was drawn to media reports suggesting that Hon. Justice Joyce O. Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court had removed the elected state chairmen, who are yet to be inaugurated.
The ADC clarified that the situation has been misunderstood and maintained that the recent congresses did not affect the tenure of the existing state executives.
“It would be recalled that we issued a statement shortly after the congresses stating that the congresses did not truncate the tenure of the current State Executives, which will run their full course before the newly elected State Executives are inaugurated,” the party said.
The party added that it has already taken steps to properly study the court ruling.
“Nevertheless, the leadership of the ADC has instructed its legal team to review the said judgment and advise the party appropriately,” the statement added.
