A group called Ẹgbẹ́ Àjọṣepọ̀ Fún Ìtẹsiwájú Gbogbo Wa has asked President Bola Tinubu and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to support a governorship candidate from the Òkèògùn area ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group said this during a press briefing in Ibadan on Friday. They said they want fairness in how political power is shared in Oyo State.
The group’s chairman, Engr. Dauda Olaifa, criticised comments reportedly made by Sharafadeen Alli, who was said to have suggested that the Òkèògùn region should not contest the governorship yet.
Olaifa said this view is unfair and that the people of Òkèògùn have waited for too long.
He said that since 1979, most governors in Oyo State have come from only one part of the state, while areas like Òkèògùn, Ìbàràpá, Ọ̀yọ́, and Ọ̀gbómọ̀ṣọ́ have not had equal chances.
According to him, this situation is not fair and goes against the idea of equal representation in governance.
The group also called on both the APC and PDP to choose their 2027 governorship candidates from the Òkèògùn area to ensure fairness.
They said they are not asking for special treatment, but for justice and equal opportunity.
The group added that other states have already started rotating political offices among different regions and urged Oyo State to do the same.
They expressed hope that political leaders will make fair decisions before the 2027 elections.
