Pakistan is facing another challenge as a major power crisis has disrupted operations at several government education offices in Sindh province. For nearly three weeks, prolonged power cuts have affected daily operations, bringing many public services to a standstill. According to The Express Tribune, officials say all electricity bills have already been paid, yet the power supply remains disrupted.
Major Education Offices Affected
The power crisis has impacted several key education department offices in Sindh, including:
- Directorate General Colleges Sindh
- Regional Directorate of Government Colleges Sindh
- Regional Directorate of Private Schools Karachi
Frequent power cuts have severely affected administrative work in these offices.
Online Services and Administrative Work Disrupted
The lack of electricity has shut down computers, internet services and printing systems.
As a result:
- Online registration for private schools has been suspended.
- Computer-generated certificates cannot be issued.
- Public grievance redressal has been delayed.
- Admission-related work in government colleges has been affected.
Many important public services remain on hold.
Only 3–4 Hours of Electricity a Day
Officials say that during an eight-hour work shift, offices receive electricity for only three to four hours.
Power is generally available from 11 am to 2 pm, after which supply is cut again, especially after 4 pm.
The Deputy Director of the Inspection Department said that despite paying all electricity bills, the power utility K-Electric has not resolved the issue.
Employees Forced to Work Outside
With no electricity, fans and air conditioners remain switched off inside office buildings.
Due to extreme heat and humidity, many employees are unable to work indoors and have been forced to sit outside to continue their work.
Students and Parents Also Facing Problems
The power crisis has also affected students, parents, teachers and school principals visiting these offices for admissions, school registrations and other official work.
Many people reportedly wait for hours but leave without completing their work because of the ongoing electricity outages.
