Paris hospitals to receive 1,000 air conditioners in preparation for another heatwave

Around 1,000 air conditioners will be delivered to hospitals across the Paris region by the end of the week as France prepares for another heatwave, broadcaster BFMTV reported on Friday.

The move comes after the French government announced plans to supply 30,000 air conditioners to hospitals nationwide to help them cope with future heatwaves.

Hospitals in the Paris area have already begun purchasing additional units while awaiting government deliveries.

“I think it’s very important and really necessary to get through a second heatwave, especially if it comes in a short period of time,” Emmanuel Raffoux, head of the haematology department at Saint-Louis Hospital, told BFMTV.

“Our bodies have suffered and are trying to recover. For the patients here, many will likely experience a second heatwave during the same hospital stay,” he added.
