A traveler named Mr. Amechi Michael filed a lawsuit against British Airways for allegedly lost carry-on bags, and the Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled the hearing for July 2.
Defense attorney Mr. John Godwin cross-examined plaintiff Amechi Michael during the matter’s resumed hearing.
During the cross-examination, the plaintiff informed the court that he had reported the event to the airline’s customer service.
He said that after that, he was sent to the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), which is located in the UK, for settlement.
Additionally, he informed the court that although the arbitrator found in his favor about the flight delay, the problem of the missing carry-on luggage was left unaddressed.
Amechi said that because he was unhappy with the arbitral ruling, he rejected the verdict and went to the Federal High Court in Abuja to seek compensation for the purported luggage loss.
He claimed that British Airways’ employees were careless and that the carrier owed him a duty of care to return the luggage.
Barrister Abiola Olaitan, the plaintiff’s attorney, later told the court that she intended to end her client’s lawsuit.
Following that, the court, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, postponed the trial and defense to July 2.
The plaintiff filed a lawsuit against British Airways under the case number FHC/ABJ/CS/1293/2025, claiming that his carry-on luggage was misplaced during a delayed boarding procedure.
According to him, this happened when a member of the cabin crew asked that the luggage be turned over for safekeeping.
