Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has declared the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) a shadow of its former self, following a string of high-profile defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abiodun made the remarks on Wednesday, July 30, in Abeokuta throughout a reception organised to welcome a number of former PDP leaders into the APC.
Among those that switched allegiance had been the PDP’s 2023 Deputy Governorship Candidate, Adekunle Akinlade; the get together’s former state chairman, Dr Sikirullahi Ogundele; Deputy Minority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Lukman Atobatele; and ex-Chief Whip, Idowu Olowofuja.
Also becoming a member of had been former ALGON Chairman, Dr Mojeed Ekelojumati, and former Ado-Odo/Ota Council boss, Rotimi Rahman, popularly referred to as Arugbo.

Abiodun echoed Ogundele’s earlier declare that, “every responsible member of PDP in Ogun State” has left the get together.
Taking a swipe on the opposition, the governor stated, “PDP nationwide has develop into an empty shell.
“As a matter of fact, they have been referred to as Internally Displaced Persons (IDP). They are looking for IDP camps. They went to SDP, they were not accommodated, ditto to the ADC. They are still displaced.”
He added, “I am glad that you (new APC members) have chosen to come back to where you did belong.”
The governor described the defectors as “progressive-thinking politicians” and pledged to grant them full rights and privileges throughout the APC.
