The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has screened three senatorial aspirants and 131 House of Assembly aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chairman of the screening committee, Tyem Gideon Nanden, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Jos after the completion of the exercise.
According to him, the aspirants who scaled through the screening process are expected to participate in the party’s primary elections slated for next Wednesday.
Nanden stated that the majority of the aspirants emerged through consensus arrangements, including candidates for the three senatorial districts in the state.
He identified the senatorial aspirants as Johnbuil Shekarau for Plateau South, Timothy Golu for Plateau Central, and Formson Godson Dalyop for Plateau North.
According to him, all three aspirants emerged as consensus candidates in their respective senatorial districts.
The screening committee chairman also revealed that all aspirants seeking tickets for the House of Representatives emerged through consensus, except those contesting for the Langtang North/Langtang South Federal Constituency seat, where the contest remains open.
Nanden further disclosed that 131 aspirants are jostling for the party’s tickets across the 24 constituencies in the Plateau State House of Assembly.
He added that the party was optimistic about conducting peaceful primaries across the state ahead of the 2027 polls.
The PDP chieftain also disclosed that five governorship aspirants from Plateau State are currently undergoing screening in Abuja.
Naijaonpoint reports that the aspirants include Kefas Wungak Ropshik, Sarpya Danielo, Sunday Biggs, Alfred Dapal, and Alex Ladam.
Speaking on internal party affairs, Nanden dismissed reports suggesting the existence of factions within the PDP.
He maintained that the party remains united under the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.
He also ruled out the possibility of any rival faction presenting candidates for the elections, insisting that the PDP recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission remains intact and united.
