The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has paid condolence visits to the family of its late former National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the Lamido of Adamawa and Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri.
The party disclosed this in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, on Tuesday, September 15.
The PDP delegation, led by the Chairman of its Interim National Working Committee, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, visited Tukur’s family at Tukur Lodge in Yola before proceeding to the palace of the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, and the Adamawa State Government House.
Speaking during the visit to Tukur’s family, Turaki described the late former chairman as a statesman whose contributions extended beyond Adamawa State and the PDP.
“According to the Quran, every person who lives will die and go to the great beyond. So, Baba Tukur has gone the way of all mortals,” Turaki said.

He said the party was mourning the loss of Tukur’s presence and the values he demonstrated throughout his public and private life.
“Our visit is in recognition of the great legacy he left, not just in Adamawa, old Gongola and Northern Nigeria, but also the impressionable footprints he left on the Nigerian business and political landscape,” he said.
Turaki added that the PDP would remain committed to preserving the ideals upon which the party was founded.
“As a party, we are deeply pained by his loss, and we are determined, now more than before, to ensure that the PDP, of which the late icon was one of its founding fathers, remains true to its ideals and is not diluted or compromised,” he said.
Responding, Tukur’s son and Secretary to the Adamawa State Government, Awwal Tukur, thanked the PDP delegation for the visit and described Turaki as a long-standing member of the family.
“Baba took you as a son, and you took him as a father. Today, he is gone, but his legacy lives on,” Awwal said.
He described his late father as a man who made significant contributions across professional, social, economic and administrative spheres.
Awwal also expressed pride in the PDP’s continued existence, recalling his late father’s role as one of the party’s founding figures.
“I am happy that, despite all the troubles, the PDP still remains the only legacy party in this country,” he said.
At the Government House, Governor Fintiri thanked the party leadership for coming to Adamawa to condole with the family and the state over Tukur’s death.
“Your visit to Adamawa today to offer your condolences is one which I, on behalf of the government and people of Adamawa State, appreciate greatly,” Fintiri said.
“We have lost a father and a shining light, but we trust that Allah (SWT) will grant him Aljannah Firdausi and comfort all of us who are grieving,” he added.
At the Lamido’s Palace, the monarch described Tukur, who held the traditional title of Tafidan Adamawa, as a respected son of the kingdom who brought honour and recognition to the emirate.
The Lamido said the former PDP chairman’s death was a major loss whose impact would be felt for a long time, while praying for Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdausi.
The PDP delegation included members of the party’s Board of Trustees and Interim National Working Committee, as well as its governorship candidates in Adamawa, Taraba and Kebbi states.
TVC News had earlier reported that Tukur, a former governor of the defunct Gongola State and former PDP National Chairman, died on Saturday, three days before his 91st birthday.
