PFIPC Scandal: Adeyemi Tackles Gbajabiamila, Says Tinubu’s Assent to ‘Non-Existent’ Agency Embarrassing

Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the embattled figure at the centre of the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), has challenged the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, insisting that the Presidency’s claim that the agency does not exist amounts to an embarrassment for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking while addressing journalists, Adeyemi questioned how official government records could allegedly reference a non-existent agency if due process had been followed in the creation and approval of government institutions.

He argued that the controversy raises serious concerns about the integrity of the administrative process that allegedly led to the establishment of the agency.

According to him, “If the Chief of Staff to the President has meritoriously served for over 20 years and rose from Minority Leader to Majority Leader and later Speaker for four years. The question becomes unavoidable: at what point in the process did reference to a non-existent agency allegedly enter the official records? If that is indeed present in the official documentation, what does that imply about the integrity of the process that produced and approved those documents?” he said.

Adeyemi further maintained that if the Presidency’s position is that PFIPC never existed, then President Tinubu’s assent to documents relating to the agency would reflect poorly on the administration.

“For President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to assent his signature to a non-existent agency, according to his Chief of Staff, is an embarrassment to this hardworking government,” he stated.

He also alleged that the agency maintains domiciliary pound sterling accounts and a Treasury Single Account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), arguing that such accounts could not have been opened without due institutional scrutiny.

“The same acclaimed non-existent agency has domiciliary pounds and Treasury Single Account, all domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria. What the Chief of Staff is telling Nigerians is that the CBN Governor, his four deputies, 16 capable directors and over 5,300 staff members were clueless and failed to detect fraudulent documents before opening those accounts,” Adeyemi alleged.

NAIJAONPOINT reports that the PFIPC controversy has continued to generate national attention, with several prominent individuals and organisations calling for an independent investigation.

Among those who have demanded a probe are human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, and the Nigeria Democratic Congress. Some of the groups have also called on Gbajabiamila to step aside pending the outcome of an investigation.

The controversy began on June 11, 2026, when the Office of the Chief of Staff disowned Adeyemi, accusing him of falsely presenting himself as Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) and the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC), agencies the Presidency said do not exist.

According to the Presidency, forged appointment letters surfaced in October 2025, prompting Gbajabiamila to petition security agencies. Adeyemi was subsequently arraigned before the Federal High Court on charges bordering on forgery, impersonation and obtaining by false pretence.

Adeyemi has denied all the allegations, insisting he would clear his name in court. He has also called on President Tinubu to constitute an independent investigative panel, alleging that attempts were being made to silence him.

He had earlier claimed during a television interview that Gbajabiamila personally issued his appointment letter, maintaining that the court would ultimately determine the authenticity of the documents and the allegations against him.
