The historic town of Ijebu-Ode was transformed into a vibrant spectacle of tradition, elegance, and royalty on Friday as thousands gathered to mark the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival.
The 2026 edition of the festival took place at the palace of the Awujale in Ijebu-Ode, drawing indigenes, tourists, dignitaries, and culture enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond.
Ojude Oba, meaning “the king’s courtyard,” is an annual celebration of the Ijebu people in Ogun State. The festival is famous for its bold display of culture, elaborate pageantry, and deep ancestral pride.
This year’s event was no exception. From ornately dressed horse riders and synchronised age-grade groups to stunning traditional outfits and lively dance performances, the celebration once again highlighted the rich heritage and unity of the Ijebu people.
The colourful procession featured different regberegbe (age-grade groups) adorned in coordinated attires, beads, and luxurious fabrics, while horse-riding families thrilled spectators with breathtaking displays of skill and grandeur. Traditional drummers and cultural performers also entertained guests, creating an atmosphere filled with music, excitement, and celebration.
Top dignitaries, business leaders, socialites, and royal fathers were also in attendance, adding glamour to the annual festival regarded as one of Nigeria’s biggest cultural gatherings. Many attendees described the 2026 edition as a remarkable showcase of cultural pride, fashion, and the enduring traditions of the Ijebu people.
