The Kano State Government has commenced rehabilitation works at the Joda Regional Water Scheme following an inspection visit to the facility last week, with authorities reporting significant progress toward restoring water supply to communities served by the scheme.
SolaceBase reports that the development was disclosed on Tuesday by the Kano State Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru M. Hashim, in a statement personally signed by him.
He described the intervention as both critical and historic, noting that the facility had not pumped a single litre of water in the last seven years.
According to the commissioner, rehabilitation work began immediately after the inspection, resulting in the repair of four tube wells, which are now operational and supplying water to the facility’s two storage tanks with a combined capacity of 720,000 litres.

“We are pleased to report that rehabilitation works commenced immediately following the inspection visit, and significant progress has already been recorded,” Hashim said.
He explained that one of the generators powering the facility had been successfully repaired, while work on the second generator and the restoration of the main electricity supply were expected to be completed by Wednesday.
The commissioner further revealed that two of the facility’s four high-lift pumps had been repaired and were already functioning, while engineers were working to restore the remaining two pumps.

Hashim said the rehabilitation would enable the plant, which has a production capacity of 9.6 million litres of water per day, to resume pumping water to communities along its distribution network in the coming days.
He reiterated the commitment of the administration of Gov Abba Kabir Yusuf to improving access to potable water in rural communities across the state.

According to him, Governor Yusuf had directed the construction of additional tube wells and the complete rehabilitation of the facility’s administrative offices and other critical infrastructure to ensure the scheme returns to full operational capacity.
“Our collective efforts are yielding tangible results for the people,” the commissioner said, expressing optimism that the ongoing intervention would significantly improve water supply in the affected communities.
