A 43-year-old man, Lamodi Turayo, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court in the Lagos Magisterial District over allegations of breach of peace and unlawful possession of suspected illicit drugs.
The defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge filed by the Commissioner of Police, according to court documents.
According to the charge sheet, the incident allegedly occurred on the 14th of May, 2026 at about 9:00am along Onipanu area of Lagos State.
The prosecution stated in Count I that the defendant allegedly conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by being in possession of illicit drugs at the said time and place.
The offence is said to be punishable under Section 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
In Count II, the prosecution alleged that the defendant was unlawfully in possession of about 5 grams of substances suspected to be “Canadian Loud” and Molly, both suspected to be hard drugs.
The alleged offence under Count II is punishable under Section 123 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The matter was handled by ASP Ibrahim Abdullahi of Ilupeju Police Station, Lagos, according to the charge document.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, SP Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court for a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove the allegations.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility, Lagos, pending perfection of his bail conditions.
Legal observers note that charges before a magisterial court are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court.
Authorities have continued to warn members of the public against possession and trafficking of illicit substances, saying security agencies will enforce the law in line with the provisions of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.
