The Nigeria Police Force has reported a series of operational successes across 15 states, including the rescue of kidnapped victims, arrests of suspected criminals, recovery of firearms and ammunition, and disruption of alleged criminal activities.
In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, on Sunday, the police said the operations recorded between August 21 and 29, 2026, were carried out by commands across the country as part of efforts to strengthen security and protect communities.
In Enugu State, police operatives, working with forest guards, neighbourhood watch personnel and local youths, foiled the abduction of a youth leader in Amofia Agu Community, Affa, and arrested a 23-year-old suspect, Ifebuche Onu.
The police said two firearms were recovered from the operation, including an AK-47 rifle with two loaded magazines containing 53 rounds of ammunition and a Beretta rifle with a magazine containing 30 rounds. Other items recovered included a fortified charm, button phone and bunch of keys.
In a separate operation in the state, operatives rescued an eight-year-old boy, Adipkuta Chiemerie, and arrested two suspects, Thomas Ugwu, 19, and Ozokolo Chinedu, 18, following intelligence that the victim had been released after a N1 million ransom was paid into a UBA account.
The suspects were reportedly identified by the victim and confessed to the crime, while the police said efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the gang.
In Kebbi State, the police said five brothers abducted from their settlement in Tungan Dariya Forest, Shanga, were rescued following sustained pressure on the suspected kidnappers.
Three victims were reportedly released while two others escaped from captivity. One of the victims later identified a 20-year-old suspect, Bello Ali Toro, at the Central Mosque during Juma’at prayers, leading to his arrest and recovery of a stolen Tecno handset.

In Gombe State, two abducted persons, 31-year-old Hadiza Mohammadu and her 15-year-old daughter, Hajara, regained their freedom on August 29 and were reunited with their family.
The police also reported the arrest of Anthony Chibuike, 37, in Abia State over the alleged fatal shooting of 80-year-old Onwuasoanya Ehirim in Umuahia. A Beretta pistol and a round of ammunition were recovered from the suspect.
In Rivers State, an armed robbery suspect, Aaron Monday, 21, was handed over to the police by local vigilantes and OSPAC security personnel following a robbery along Rumuologu. A locally made pistol, two cartridges, a Nokia phone and stolen valuables were recovered.
The police said the suspect confessed to being part of a four-man gang allegedly terrorising Ozouba, Choba and Eleme, while efforts were underway to apprehend other members.
In Akwa Ibom State, operatives tracked a Ford Jeep allegedly stolen from Akpasak Estate, Uyo, to Delta State, where a private security personnel, Bright Ekpeyong Okon, was arrested in possession of the vehicle. The recovered vehicle was subsequently returned to the command.
In Katsina State, police operatives arrested a suspected electrical cable vandal, Hamisu Umar, 25, at Jiba Village, Sandamu Local Government Area. Two other suspects reportedly escaped, abandoning their motorcycle, which was recovered by the police.
In Bayelsa State, two suspects, Nabo Innocent, also known as Yellow Papa, 39, and Ayibatare Talbot, 36, were arrested in connection with an alleged attempted armed robbery at Bassambiri.
The police said the principal suspect was tracked to his hideout in Ogbolomabiri, while efforts continued to recover other exhibits and apprehend additional suspects.
In Delta State, a 23-year-old woman, Michelle Okolo, was arrested over an alleged attempt to sell her newborn baby boy for N1.8 million through an intermediary to a buyer in Onitsha, Anambra State. The police said efforts were ongoing to arrest other alleged accomplices and recover the child.
In Oyo State, police arrested a vigilante, Mathew Monday, for allegedly shooting a 23-year-old herder, Bello Abu, in the right leg while he was grazing cattle in the Lagun area of Ibadan. A Dane gun was recovered from the suspect.
The police also reported arrests in Cross River, Ogun, Ebonyi and Gombe states over separate allegations involving sexual offences and murder.
In Cross River, a 37-year-old security guard, Ndifreke Godwin, was arrested over the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl, who was subsequently referred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
In Ogun State, police arrested a 22-year-old suspect identified as Daniel over the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl after reportedly administering a substance to her.
In Ebonyi State, Chukwudi Elechi Amadi, 22, was arrested over the fatal shooting of 38-year-old Chijioke Oko Aka during a wake-keep at Ihie Amasiri, Afikpo.
The police said the victim’s remains were recovered for autopsy, while the suspect remained in custody.
Also in Gombe, 50-year-old Iliya Ibrahim was arrested over the alleged sexual assault of his seven-year-old stepdaughter. The police said both the suspect and the victim were taken to a specialist hospital for medical examination.
The Force said the cases were under investigation by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments, while efforts were continuing to apprehend fleeing suspects and other accomplices.
