The FCT Police Command has dismissed circulating social media reports alleging an influx of Fulani herdsmen into Anguwan Dobi in Gwagwalada Area Council, describing the claims as misleading and unverified.
The clarification followed viral videos and online posts suggesting that unusual movements of herdsmen in the community posed an imminent danger.
The Command, in a statement on Friday, stated that operatives of the FCT Police Command were immediately deployed to Anguwan Dobi and adjoining communities to verify the claims and assess the security situation on ground.
The statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, assured residents that no security threat has been established in the area.
According to the Command, officers who carried out the on-the-spot assessment did not observe any unusual gathering, suspicious movement, or individuals matching the descriptions contained in the reports. The police said findings from the operation did not support the narrative being circulated online.
“Upon noticing the circulating videos and reports, Police operatives were immediately deployed to the location and adjoining communities to assess the situation and ascertain the facts of the matter.
“However, no unusual gathering, suspicious movement, or persons matching the claims in the reports were found within the said area or its surrounding environment at the time of investigation.”
The Command added that it is still monitoring developments in the area and conducting further checks to fully establish the facts surrounding the reports. It, however, urged residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear or apprehension.
