The Gombe State Police Command has recovered 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition that had been hidden in a bag along Kalshingi Road in Kwadon, within the Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area.
According to the state command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the discovery was triggered by a tip-off received by the Divisional Police Officer of the Kwadon Division around 10:30am on May 19, 2026.
The information indicated that a suspicious white sack had been stashed beneath a tree directly opposite a graveyard along the road.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer personally led a team of detectives to the location, where the sack was found and searched.
In addition to the live ammunition, the search turned up two empty ammunition packets, two bottles of moringa seeds, and a green bag.
Following the find, officers immediately combed the surrounding bushes and nearby areas, though no arrests were made at the scene.
In the wake of the discovery, the Command has stepped up surveillance and monitoring across the area while investigations continue in an effort to track down those responsible for concealing the ammunition.
Gombe State Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, commended members of the public for the timely information that led to the recovery.
He encouraged residents to stay alert and to keep sharing useful intelligence with security agencies, emphasising that community cooperation remains a vital tool in the broader effort to curb insecurity and safeguard lives and property across the state.
