The police command in Lagos says it has apprehended a 22-year-old suspected cultist  and recovered a locally made pistol and other weapons during an operation at the Ebute Metta area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.

She said that the arrest followed a distress call from concerned residents who reported that a young man was harassing passers-by and causing panic within the community.

“The police operatives swiftly responded to the report and apprehended the suspect.

“A thorough search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, a live cartridge and local charms concealed in his possession,” she said.

According to her, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was a notorious cultist allegedly involved in terrorising residents and engaging in activities capable of disrupting public peace.

The police spokesperson added that further findings showed that the suspect had been evading arrest before he was eventually apprehended by the police.

Adebisi said that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Tijani, commended the prompt response and professionalism of the officers involved in the operation.

The image maker said that CP Tijani
also reiterated the command’s commitment to combating cultism, armed robbery and other violent crimes across the state.

The spokesperson urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police with credible and timely information to enhance public safety and security.

“Support the police with credible and timely information through the command’s emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929,” she said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
