The Kano State Police Command has launched an investigation into a suspected case of culpable homicide and mischief by fire following a deadly incident at Amana House in Danbare Quarters, Kano.
According to a statement by the Command, police received a distress call on June 19, 2026, reporting a fire outbreak at the residence. Operatives of the Dorayi Babba Division were immediately deployed to the scene, where the fire had already been brought under control.
On arrival, officers discovered 27-year-old Ismail Sidi Muhammad of Tishama Hotoro Quarters inside a room with severe injuries, including burns and a head wound. He was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was confirmed dead while receiving treatment.
Preliminary findings suggest the deceased had visited his girlfriend, 25-year-old Fatima Abdullahi, when a dispute allegedly broke out between them and escalated into a physical altercation.
Police said the suspect was later seen outside the room raising an alarm that a fire had started in the building.
Abdullahi also sustained burn injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment under police supervision.
During a search of the scene, officers recovered three knives, a blood-stained high-heeled shoe, two mobile phones, and a white Honda vehicle belonging to the deceased. The vehicle was also found to contain ₦446,000 in cash.
The police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, adding that further updates will be communicated as the inquiry progresses.
