The Adamawa State Police command has arrested a 26-year-old cleaner identified as Mihammed Dan-Azumi, for allegedly stealing a 2016 Toyota Corolla Sport valued at approximately N18m, belonging to a medical doctor.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 21, the command’s spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the suspect was arrested in Kano State. The medical doctor, currently observing his mandatory one-year NYSC service in a hospital, had asked the cleaner, also working in the hospital, to help wash his car.
The suspect, however, had ulterior moves as he absconded with the car.
According to the police, the suspect was traced to Kano after the victim lodged a complaint with the police.
“The breakthrough followed a report lodged by the owner of the vehicle, who stated that he had entrusted his vehicle to Mohammed Dan-Azumi, 26, of Girei Local Government Area, for washing. The suspect allegedly absconded with the vehicle to an unknown destination.
Acting swiftly on the report, operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID), Yola, launched a coordinated, intelligence-led operation that led to the tracking and arrest of the suspect in Kano State. The stolen vehicle was successfully recovered”, the statement partly read.
The statement added that investigations were ongoing and that the suspect would be arraigned upon the conclusion of the investigation.
