Police nab illicit drug dealers in Kano crackdown

Four notorious drug dealers have been arrested by the operatives of Kano state Police Command Special Intervention Squad (SIS).

The operations were carried out at different locations within Kano metropolis in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on intelligence-led and community-oriented policing.

Acting on credible and actionable intelligence obtained through open-source sources and information volunteered by members of the public, operatives of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and Gezawa Police Division swiftly conducted coordinated operations leading to the arrest of multiple suspects and the recovery of substantial quantities of illicit substances.

On 23 May 2026, operatives of the Special Intervention Squad, acting on credible intelligence, arrested two suspects along Nassarawa GRA, Kano: Abdulsalam Muhammad, 30 years old, of Hotoro, Nassarawa Local Government Area, Kano state; and Murtala Sani, 34 years old, of Zangon Dakata, Ungoggo Local Government Area, Kano state.

The suspects were found in possession of one Bagco sack reasonably suspected to contain illicit drugs.

Upon interrogation, Abdulsalam Muhammad confessed that the sack contained quantities of Tramadol illicit hard drugs given to him by two accomplices currently at large.

A search of the sack revealed 23 rolls of Tramadol, with each roll containing 10 packs.

The suspects have confessed to the crime.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplices and recover more exhibits.

In continuation of the Command’s crime prevention strategy and in compliance with the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, on 23 May 2026, a team of policemen attached to Gezawa Police Division, arrested one Sama’ila Ado, 40 years old, of Dabi Village, Ringim Local Government Area, Jigawa State.

The suspect was apprehended at Bangare Village black spots for publicly selling suspected Cannabis Sativa.

Recovered from him were 130 wraps and half a block of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

The case will be charged to the Magistrate Court for prosecution.

Similarly, on 23 May, 2026, a team of Policemen attached Gezawa Police Division arrested one Umar Salisu, 25 years old, of Yunbu Village, Gabasawa Local Government Area, at Gezawa Mesanda black spots.

Recovered from the suspect were 10 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa and two bottles of rubber solution.

The suspect will also be charged to court upon completion of investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers and men of the Special Intervention Squad and Gezawa Division for their professionalism, commitment, and selfless service in executing these operations.

CP Bakori further appreciated the good people of Kano state for their continued support, cooperation, and timely provision of credible information, which has greatly enhanced the Command’s capacity to detect and prevent crime.

He urged members of the public to sustain the partnership by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.

He said the Kano State Police Command remains resolute in its mandate to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure the safety and security of all residents in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
