Police Neutralise Six Terrorists, Arrest Three Sponsors In Southeast

The Nigeria Police Force has reported a series of operational successes across several states, including the neutralisation of six suspected terrorists in Anambra State, the arrest of three suspected terrorist collaborators in Imo State and the rescue of three kidnapped victims in Kaduna State.

In a statement signed by CSP Ani Iniedu, ANIPR, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the police said the operations were recorded between August 21 and 23, 2026.

In Anambra State, a joint task force conducted a counter-terrorism clearance operation at an identified terrorist camp in a dense forest in Amiyi, Ogbaru Local Government Area, on August 22.

The police said operatives engaged the suspected terrorists in a gun duel, during which six were neutralised while others fled into the bush.

Two pump-action guns, undetonated improvised explosive devices and charms were recovered, while the identified terrorist camps and shrines were destroyed.

The police said the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka was investigating the incident.

In Imo State, police operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested three suspected terrorist collaborators on August 21.

The suspects allegedly included the owner of a terrorist camp, an informant and a suspected cook for the group.

Two AK rifles were recovered, including an AK-49 allegedly linked to the killing of a Homeland Security Guard and an AK-47 reportedly snatched from Agwa Police Station during an attack in 2022.

The suspects remain in custody as investigators work to establish their individual roles and uncover the wider network.

In Kaduna State, police operatives working with local vigilantes raided a suspected kidnappers’ hideout at Gidan Mijin Gwaggo Durum in Makarfi Local Government Area on August 23.

Three kidnapped victims, including Alhaji Hamza Shuaibu Gimi, were rescued and reunited with their families. A Boxer motorcycle was also recovered from the scene, while efforts continue to apprehend fleeing suspects.

In Rivers State, police arrested one suspect in connection with an alleged assassination attempt following an attack along Amadabo Residence in Finima on August 22.

The police said the suspect was arrested after operatives responded to reports of an ambush by suspected assailants, while efforts to apprehend other fleeing suspects are ongoing.

In Ogun State, police are investigating an armed robbery at a residence in Soyoye, Abeokuta, where hoodlums allegedly forced a transfer of N5 million, stole N6 million in cash and mobile phones and escaped with an unregistered Highlander SUV.

The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen vehicle and other exhibits.

In another operation in Taraba State on August 21, detectives recovered an AK-47 rifle from a bush near the scene of a violent clash at Kashimbilla in Takum Local Government Area.

The police said engagement with relevant stakeholders was ongoing to prevent further escalation.

In Cross River State, 10 suspects were arrested after detectives acting on actionable intelligence raided a suspected criminal hideout in Abini Community on August 22.

A locally made double-barrel short pistol, battle axe, dagger, cult insignia beret, police camouflage trousers and a PMF cardigan were recovered.

Also in Ogun State, police arrested a suspect on August 21 in connection with an alleged illegal installation capable of causing a breach of the peace.

A search of the suspect reportedly led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol, one live cartridge and a charm.

In Anambra State, a female suspect was arrested during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Nkpor-Idiani-Abatete Road on August 22 after she was found with N12 million in cash.

The police said the suspect could not satisfactorily account for the source of the money and was being investigated for suspected money laundering.

In Nasarawa State, police arrested a suspect linked to a reported fatal machete attack at Ajaga Community in Lafia Local Government Area.

The suspect was trailed and subsequently arrested in connection with the alleged culpable homicide.

In another incident in Ogun State, police operatives responded to an armed robbery at a church vigil in Sango-Ota on August 22.

The police said injured victims were evacuated to hospital for treatment, while operations were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

The Force said the various cases remained under investigation by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments, with further action expected based on the outcome of the investigations.
