The Kogi State Police Command has rescued a kidnap victim, neutralised a suspected kidnapper, and recovered a pump-action gun during a joint security operation in Ijumu Local Government Area.
A joint security team comprising Police operatives, the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, officers on special duty, and local vigilantes rescued a kidnap victim following a gun battle with suspected kidnappers in the Olle-Bunu Forest, Ijumu Local Government Area.
The victim, Abubakar Kabiru, was abducted from his residence at Nila Forest Camp in Ayegunle Gbede in the early hours of Friday before security operatives tracked the kidnappers into the forest.

During the operation, one suspected kidnapper was neutralised while others fled, abandoning the victim, who is receiving treatment for a gunshot injury. An Italian-made pump-action gun was also recovered from the scene.
Commissioner of Police Naziru Bello Kankarofi commended the operatives and local vigilantes for the successful operation and assured residents that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network.
He also urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support the fight against crime.
