The Police said they have commenced investigation of two men allegedly caught with large amount of money by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
The men were arrested on Thursday, June 4, 2026, by security operatives in Atiba, Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State,
The two men described as Fulani herdsmen were allegedly apprehended with large amount of cash amounts, as shown in videos and photos circulated on social media.
Ogun Police Command spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said in a statement on Thursday that the suspects were intercepted during a security operation by operatives of Nigeria Forest Security Service.
He said they were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
Babaseyi said preliminary inquiries are ongoing to establish the identities and determine the circumstances surrounding their activities within the area.
“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to assure residents that the situation is under control and that there is no cause for alarm.
“The suspects will be subjected to a thorough and professional investigation in accordance with the law, while any further action will be guided by the outcome of ongoing inquiries.
Babaseyi assured that the command is committed to maintaining public safety and security across the state and urges members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible and timely information.
Meanwhile, the Ogun Police Command had earlier debunked claim that a group of men intercepted in a bus in Ifo Local Government Area of the state are involved in criminal activities.
Recall that there were scare in some parts of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, following the rapid circulation of unverified reports alleging that a commercial bus loaded with suspected criminals had been sighted along the Ibogun Road axis.
But the Command said contrary to the claim, the men were construction laborers working on a public infrastructure project.
“Acting swiftly on actionable intelligence received on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the Command deployed its specialized surveillance and anti-robbery teams to the location to neutralize any potential threat.
“Upon arrival, tactical operatives discovered that the bus had already been intercepted by an anxious group of local youths. However, a thorough on-the-scene investigation revealed that the vehicle was conveying 21 manual laborers who are currently engaged by the construction firm handling the ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Ifo–Ibogun federal road project.
“Following rigorous identity verification, the police confirmed that the men were law-abiding citizens legally contracted for the road infrastructure development. The command declared the rumors linking them to any criminal syndicate or kidnapping network as completely false and unfounded.
“To prevent further intimidation, police officers reassured the shaken workers of their safety and formally escorted them directly to their designated work site,” Babaseyi said.
