ACCRA, Ghana — Six women have been taken into police custody in Ghana after security operatives disrupted what is believed to be an initiation ceremony for a suspected internet fraud syndicate, commonly referred to as “Yahoo girls.”
According to reports circulating online, the women were allegedly recruiting new female members into the group when police stormed the premises following a tip-off from an informant within the neighborhood.
The suspects were reportedly found Naked at the time of the raid and were allegedly participating in what authorities believe may have been a ritual activity. During the operation, police recovered six iPhone 17 devices, five iPhone 16 smartphones, three Apple laptops, and approximately $11,000 in cash believed to be in U.S. currency. Watch Video

One of the officers involved in the operation reportedly stated that the police initially identified themselves and gave the women an opportunity to get dressed before entering the room.
“Even after we announced that we were police officers, they told us they were naked. We waited for them to wear clothes, but they refused, so we had to force our way inside,” the officer reportedly said.
All six suspects were arrested at the scene and have since been taken into custody for further investigation.
Authorities are expected to determine whether the recovered cash and electronic devices are connected to cybercrime or other criminal activities. Investigators are also working to establish the exact nature of the alleged ritual and whether additional suspects were involved.
