Pope Leo XIV is expected to release a major manifesto on artificial intelligence as the Vatican intensifies efforts to address rising ethical and social concerns linked to the rapid advancement of the technology.
The document, titled “Magnifica Humanitas (Magnificent Humanity),” is scheduled to be unveiled on Monday, May 25, at the Vatican in Rome.
It will represent the Pope’s first major teaching focused on the implications of AI for human dignity, labour rights, and broader society.
According to Vatican officials, the manifesto will explore key issues surrounding artificial intelligence, including the risks of autonomous weapons, mass surveillance, digital misinformation, and the growing influence of algorithms on human behaviour.
Pope Leo XIV has repeatedly cautioned against allowing machines to make life-and-death decisions, stressing that technology must remain a tool that serves humanity rather than replaces it.
The initiative comes as the Vatican City continues to engage global discussions on the ethical boundaries of emerging technologies.
