US rapper Offset has spoken out for the first time following the shooting outside a Florida casino that left him with a gunshot wound to the hip.
Two weeks after the April 6 incident, the 34-year-old Migos rapper appeared on the Creators Inc. Podcast, where he shared his gratitude for being able to move despite the traumatic event.
The shooting, which occurred outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Florida, saw Offset rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Despite the ordeal, Offset was already back to work and even performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival just days after the shooting, taking the stage in a wheelchair.
During the podcast, Offset, whose real name is Kiari Cephus, explained his quick recovery, saying, “People get shot every day. You’ve got to keep pushing, like the Energizer Bunny, man. Keep this s**t pushing.” He emphasized that he was “blessed” to still be able to move and didn’t want anyone to feel sorry for him. “The grind don’t stop,” he added.
Offset also joked about his protective instincts since becoming a father, saying he would “beat the living s**t out of” anyone who threatened his family. He laughed about his primal feelings as a dad, saying, “It’s funny.”
The rapper, who has been publicly removing tattoos for his mental health, also mentioned he has been busy working on new music in Los Angeles.
He is focused on his upcoming album despite the painful aftermath of the shooting.
Authorities have said the shooting was related to a fight instigated by rapper Lil Tjay, 24, who allegedly directed members of his group to start a confrontation. One of the individuals in Tjay’s group is believed to have pulled out a gun and shot Offset during the altercation. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
